The Next Generation of Video Game Consoles Roundup Empty The Next Generation of Video Game Consoles Roundup

Post by FlareonMaster Tue Jul 02, 2013 2:39 pm

Hey everyone!  This is my final round up post regarding the next generation of home video game consoles.  I will not be giving any personal preferences within this post and want everyone else to make up their own minds and decide what they think is better for them.  Please note that Microsoft did come forward a few weeks ago to confirm that they were no longer restricting offline play and the ability to share games thankfully.

Xbox One – Specifications:

The Xbox One is Microsoft’s new and upcoming system, trying to take over your living room with entertainment of all medias.  With the inclusion of Smart Glass and Kinect, a lot of things are possible, but there isn’t a large focus on video games this time around.  It is also a rather large system, probably as large as the original Playstation 3 or even larger.  Skype will be the new party chat and unless they state otherwise, your Kinect camera and mic will always be turned on.

Please note the system will have a built in DVR for recording purposes, which can be edited directly from the system.  Xbox Live Gold accounts will be transferred to the Xbox One from Xbox 360.  If you want an entertainment system fun for gamers and families, this system is for you.

DVD/Blu Ray Drive: Yes
Internal Memory: 500GB
RAM: 8GB
Backwards Compatible: No
Base Price: $499.99
Requirements: Kinect Camera
Online Membership: Gold is required for online play for $60 a year
Launch Titles: Ryse, Kinect Sports 3, Dearising 3, Battlefield 4, CoD Ghosts
Upcoming Notable Titles: Halo 5, Titan Fall, Destiny, Kingdom Hearts 3
Independent Titles: Not Allowed

Playstation 4 – Specifications:

The Playsation 4 is Sony’s new and upcoming system, which has been highly improved from its recent generation model, the Playstation 3.  You will now be able to use party chats, download a game and play it while it continues to download in the background, play multiple titles on your PS Vita while connected to wifi and much more.  With the inclusion of the Playstation 4 Smart Phone app, you can take even more control of your system similar to Smart Glass for Xbox 360 and Xbox One.  In fact you can buy a game from this app and it will start to download on your Playstation 4 even if you are not home, as long as the Playstation 4 is connected to the internet.

You can also now share videos of gameplay to your timeline on Facebook or through Sony’s social media page on the system.  This will also enable users to take control of a friends game via remote control even if they are not present.  So if you are stuck in a game, a friend can intervene if necessary to help you out.

The Eyetoy will not be a requirement and also note, unlike the Playstation 3, you will need to pay an online membership to play.  However this isn’t a bad thing, because all previous titles within Sony’s history will be playable through downloads.  Which also means PS Plus users can download new and intriguing titles each month as much as you want, much like it is right now.  PS Plus accounts will be transferred to the Playsation 4 from the Playstation 3 and PS Vita.

The Playsation 4 is for the competitive gamers and for a social media experience in a new and entertaining way.  If this what you want, this console is for you!

DVD/Blu Ray Drive: Yes
Internal Memory: 500GB
RAM: 8GB
Backwards Compatible: Through Downloads
Base Price: $399.99
Requirements: None
Online Membership: PS Plus is required for online play for $50 a year
Launch Titles: Killzone Shadow Fall, Knack Watchdogs, Battlefield 4, CoD Ghosts
Upcoming Notable Titles: Star Wars Battlefront, Sly 5, Destiny, Kingdom Hearts 3
Independent Titles: Allowed

Wii U – Specifications:

The Wii U is a rehash of Nintendo’s previous consoles, but that doesn’t mean it is a bad thing.  The Wii U is the newest Nintendo home video game console, but is the first HD console from Nintendo.  We are brought back to the world of Mario, Zelda, Pikmin and many others with this system.  The Wii U is backwards compatible with the Wii.  Also note, this system is already available to buy!  This system is for families and classics alike.  If this is what you want, then this is the system for you!

DVD/Blu Ray Drive: No
Internal Memory: 8GB or 32GB
RAM: 1GB
Backwards Compatible: With Wii or Downloads
Base Price: $299.99 - $349.99
Requirements: Gamepad
Online Membership: Free
Already Available: New Super Mario Bros Wii U, Zombie U, Monster Hunter 3
Upcoming Notable Titles: Super Smash Bros 4, Mario Kart 8, Wind Waker, Pikmin 3
Independent Titles: Allowed

So there you have it everyone!  Are any of these systems what you are looking for?  Or are you sticking with what we already have or moving to PC?  Or even moving on to the Ouya which is an Android based video game console?  That decision is up to you!  Thanks for reading everyone!

So "Written By Jonathan Olson" is a bad thing?  Aw... haha  And yeah, I don't like some of the things some of these companies are doing, but those are the facts regarding the systems.  I am personally most excited about the PS4 and I already am a PS Plus user, so the price doesn't bother me any.  Especially considering all of the titles you can download for free as long as you are a member.  In fact Battlefield 3 is a title being released today on PS Plus for free on the PS3!

Anyway, glad you liked the review!

Note: Fixed a typo.

Yeah, with all the features that come with PS Plus, it probably is worth it anyway.
