This is a useful guide, I used to have something similar (a backpack with a knife, flashlight, etc) but it got dismantled when we moved. I need to put another one together.

Yeah, I have a great hiking backpack that I can use, and tons of supplies from my boy scout days haha

But seriously, I think it's more of a guy thing. We like to be prepared to fend for ourselves using only our own strength and intuitiveness (and trusty tools lol), instead of relying on society to provide everything for us each day.

Survival packs can come in handy sometimes, if you needed to evacuate your house suddenly (maybe a fire), or if you took your pack with you on a road trip, and got stranded miles away from the nearest town (this happened to a couple I knew and the husband is still missing, presumably dead after going to search for food and help, but his wife was found in their car a couple weeks after it broke down and she survived). Or maybe something as simple as using the flashlight when you lose electricity for a few hours.
