Okay, I'm going a little off topic here but this thread was dying anyway.

What is the difference between a nerd and a geek?

Uh, I have always wondered that myself.

I think Nerds are into things that is high tech technology and into Sci-Fi, books, movies and so on. Meanwhile, geeks are not usually ones to study hard, don't know how to interact with a social life as well as others and are very into things such as board games, books and comics.

I could be very incorrect or correct with that statement above, but that is what I have seen as a difference and from what I have heard. I honestly don't really know the real difference, but that would be my guess. Haha. So please don't criticize me! I would say everyone now a days though is either semi-nerd or nerd due to everything out there now and then there is a handful of weirdos, geeks and complete morons.

I too am not totally sure what the difference is, but my understanding is somewhat similar to that of yours, Jon.

From what I understand, nerds are people who focus their lives mostly on "intellectual" pursuits and hobbies. Nerds might spend their free time doing things such as computer programming, solving math equations, or reading.

Geeks on the other hand are people who tend to obsess over fictional worlds or stories such as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Spider-man, or Red vs Blue. Geeks spend their free time playing video games, reading comic books, watching TV shows and movies, or buying products from their favorite franchise (maybe a limited edition DVD set or collectible action figure).

One person can be both a nerd and a geek. In fact this is often the case, which is why it is hard to distinguish one from the other.

I am more nerd than geek by that then, but I am both by that case. However I am not anti-social at all which I have noticed many geeks are. I have a ton of friends IRL and I am not shy.

What happens if you enjoy playing paintball and air-soft and hunting and martial arts. Along with sniping people? And soccer and playing the guitar in a band? But also playing with sharp objects and working out and studying old war maneuvers along with the latest weaponry??? (completely off subject may i note )
