how do i upload a music video or song to youtube legally?

exactly whats da title lol i have the vid saved its just that it has a copyright on it, they say unauthorized reproduction is illegal, but would simply uploading it be illegal to? i mean i see others post it but i wanna make sure that its legal and i wont get sued lol plz reply i need help on this desperatley.

just say in description all credit to who ever made song and no copyright breach intended

Well I don't know for sure but I think Youtube pays for the rights to things like that or otherwise everyone on Youtube is breaking the law but I could be wrong. When did you get an account on Youtube? Just say something like I do not own this or something just to be sure when uploading it. I hope this helped?

I think Lizat55 pretty much answered your question, but I'll explain that rule a little.

I'm not sure if there's a "legal" way to what your asking, although I highly doubt you would be sued for it (I think the most they would do is suspend your account). Uploading copyrighted material is against the rules, but it's usually not taken action against unless it contains a whole song or other valuable content (something people would pay for). Bands sell their music for a reason, it's how they make money and support themselves (contrary to popular belief, they don't magically get money from producing good songs ). When you upload whole music videos to YouTube, people are getting access to that music for free. When people can get something for free on YouTube, they obviously don't want to go out and pay for it somewhere else. This is why so many videos that contain whole songs are deleted or muted due to copyright claims, because when you upload a complete song, it's like stealing money from the creators (they are losing money and you are gaining views on your video). When it's only a small PART of a song or movie or any content, YouTube is a lot less strict because it doesn't replace the original content that people pay for. That's why there are still a lot of videos that technically break the rules but are not muted or deleted.

Even if you buy the music and say that you purchased it, they'll still take it down. That quote is the only thing that lets you keep it up. You're not gaining money off the song, and you are "teaching" us all about your video, right?

I've used that quote I gave you on about 7 videos of mine, works like a charm. Everyone does. And Youtube really doesn't care, they won't ban your account, music issues are different than Youtube issues. For example, if you uploaded porn then it would be considered explicit content and your account would be suspended. The content of music relays with WMG/UMG/Other copyright companies and therefore the company of Youtube can't suspend your account.

They can suspend your account (it's their site after all, they can do what they want). In their rules it states you aren't allowed to upload copyrighted material without permission. So although they may not suspend most accounts, they COULD do it if they wanted to.

True Eagle but look up one song and then you will find millions of videos based around that song whichever it is usually and they don't do a thing about it. I see though that people just say "I don't own this video or anything of it" many times and that usually sets them free IMO. I agree with you but they most likely won't do a thing unless it is explicit or so as Lizat said.

Plus it's nonserious and they would just AT THE MOST be like, "warning". No, in reality, the worst they will do is take down that video.
