Guns don't kill people, Video Games do.

Did you know that before video games existed, there was no such thing as violence? Seriously, it’s true. Well, that’s what the mainstream media want you to believe, as they continue to make video games a scapegoat for the downfalls of a broken society. Whether this applies to the rest of the world, I can’t honestly comment instead of focusing on the roots of society’s problems, the mainstream media are still comfortable using video games as a reason for violent behavior rather than tackling the real issues.

Yes, I fully believe violent video games do affect children negatively. Does that mean violent video games are bad? NO! It's the parents that are bad. It's sad to see how many parents allow their 10 year old kids to play games that are rated for fully matured adults!!! Even more frustrating, parents are the ones buying these games for their kids. It's not like kids can magically gain $60 and go out to the local gaming store and buy a game that is rated M. It's not like parents can't read the clearly stated 17+ label! Wake up people!

It's OBVIOUSLY the PARENTS that are the problem, not the video games!

Parents nowadays just don't want to take the time to keep track of what their kids are doing (AKA actually raising their children).

NO! I say you need to teach your child these things are bad and you should never do them. anyone with a right mind knows these things are never to be done. EVER. NEVER EVER. Dont go berserk and rage quit and do those things. (That means you flare and eagle)

Children are still maturing and are very vulnerable to outside influences, even if they don't show it. Games that are rated M should only be played by individuals who are mature enough (hence the Mature rating, duh) to distinguish the difference between fantasy and reality. In video games it is okay to kill people because it is FANTASY and the characters in video games are not real! In real life people are living humans with intelligence, emotions, and loved ones.

It can be easy to blur those originally clear lines once you start playing video games that imitate reality, but a mature adult's mental foundations are already set and are unlikely to falter whereas a child's mind can be easily affected by the illusions of virtual reality, especially subconsciously.

I agree with Eagle, this is one reason I choose carefully on games and don't let anyone play them with me unless they have permission which might sound stupid but I honestly feel you have to know whether or not it is a game you want to play that you can enjoy. I wouldn't have wanted to play games like I am now 3 years ago but I am 16 so it is different now but still don't play games such as GTA and others like it. Now when it comes to kids, this type of thing is bad influences as they learn this type of thing happens when something like that shouldn't be a game at all and I am sorry if there are people who disagree with me that is your own business but this is how I feel with stuff like this and games like this might not be bad but are for younger kids or people who might think it is fun to do stuff like this for real.

I've been playing violent videogames all my life. All videogames are violent in some ways. I'm 14, i'm perfectly caring, i don't fight, i'm not mean, wtf are these idiots talking about?

That's another thing. When young children have access to online activities like Xbox LIVE they can easily give away confidential information that could endanger themselves or their families.

Did you know that within 12 hours after Yisual Sound met me he gave me his name, location, email, and asked if I wanted his phone number? I said no of course and gave him a lecture on personal information. But seriously, his parents should have done that before even buying him an Xbox 360.

First game I played with seriousness would have been probably been Star Wars Battlefront 1 in 2004.

I think my first video games were Total Annihilation and the original Age of Empires in the '90s.

My FIRST videogame was Super Mario Bros.
