What is spam? Baby don't hurt me...

Spam is a canned precooked meat product... wait, what? Oh, not that kind of spam...?

Alright, spam is a type of post that is not allowed on these forums. Users spamming the forum to raise their post count will be temporarily banned and their post count reset! Spamming is when you post many pointless messages, or double post (posting two messages instead of editing your first one). Here is an example of spam:


Bob*: Hey I need some help with a quest on RuneScape. It's called Recipe for Disaster. I can't figure out how to catch the rats in Evil Dave's basement! Can anyone help me out?

Fred*: the rats own you. <---- POINTLESS MESSAGE AKA SPAM

Fred*: shoot dem with a sub machine gun. <---- DOUBLE POST AKA SPAM

Mike*: Hey Fred get on Xbox Live ASAP. <---- UNRELATED/POINTLESS MESSAGE AKA SPAM

Chris*: You need to get a pet cat and use it to catch the rats. EDIT: You can get a cat from the Gertrude's Cat quest. <---- GOOD POST


If you avoid spamming and instead create many polite and helpful posts, you may even be selected to become a forum moderator!

Agreed! "The rats own you" and "use a machine gun" are both examples of answers I'd use...lol

I think of spam as off topic fully and not making sense at all. However otherwise I don't think of it as spam.

i always make good posts look at the example ee made...it proves it

I agree Jon, posts that are off topic but still make coherent sense and aren't there to advertise something or be rude are NOT spam.

Posts that are off-topic but still somewhat related to the thread's topic are usually acceptable. If you wish to post about something totally off-topic you can either create a new thread or PM the user you wish to contact. In Mike's* case, a PM would have been suitable.

I'd also like to point out that the first example is partially on topic because it's talking about the rats in the quest. By C.J.'s last post, that's not spam because it has something to do with the topic.

Put it this way C.J, there won't be a way to get people to stay fully on topic 24/7. We however are on topic right now due to the subject so this is not spam, however I do keep posting which is probably how I get so many posts.

The strange thing is, I do the same thing yet I only have 1k posts...*cough*jonsanolifer*cough*...what? I SAID NOTHING!

No, I simply get wifi everywhere and have a iPod Touch... Also on topic, C.J, who would you say is the worst spammer on these forums that is active? Be honest, I don't mind if you say me however I usually am true to fact.
